2010-01-12 Our beliefs create our experience and our life

So I was reviewing some yoga teachings and philosophy last night and was struck by the relevance of them to my vision in creating this yoga studio.

There is this notion that our beliefs create our experience, and furthermore, that our entire physical environment is the materialization of our beliefs. You have heard the expression, if we can think it, it is so.

In real life I have to admit, there is a time lag, of course. We just don't think something, and like a secret genie it appears. But the relationship between our thoughts creating our intentions leading to the results in our life is true. One of my teachers, T. Harv Eker, has a saying, "What you focus on expands".

If you want to know what your beliefs are, just listen to your conversation with others. If you use a lot of self-defeating words or phrases like, "I can't", or "I never", or "bad things always happen to me", or "I'll never get ahead financially", or "there is never enough time in the day" etc., it is pretty likely that this is showing up in your life. Versus switching to positive belief systems like, "I am smart", "I can do that", "money comes to me easily and frequently" etc. Notice the change in tone and the corresponding message that is sent to the universe. If there are things in your life that you do not like. Check in to see what your beliefs really are. I can bet that what you are focussing on, is exactly what you are getting.

My Practice

So getting to my yoga studio. I have a vision of what I want to create here - different and unique, with the goal of deeply serving residents and visitors to Fernie and the Elk Valley with personalized yoga therapy classes and programs. Where they understand the importance of committing to their yoga practice and their own development by committing to a yoga series or personalized program. My vision is a studio where those who want to try yoga for the first time feel safe to play and learn, where those who are recovering from injury or want to regain functional movement in their bodies can come for yoga therapy and personalized classes. Leaving with more ease and joy. My vision is a business with a strong clientele based on word of mouth, one by one. And finally, my vision is a studio that attracts top qualilty teachers and programs that offer personal growth and life changing experiences for all.

In a conversation with a friend the other day. I realized that I will not let my belief and vision for what I want to create with this business be swayed. I believe fully in my vision and know that the universe is conspiring to make it a reality. And when I slip up and find myself using words or phrases that do not align with this, I'll put myself back on track and say, "I can."

My invitation to you...a practice

I invite you to create a list of your beliefs and how these beliefs show up in your life. Then in the second column, I invite you to rewrite that belief and turn it into an affirmation that sends a message to the universe about what you really do want to show up. Take a few moments each morning, to recite these affirmations, and call upon them when you catch yourself in conversation. Let me know what manifests for you.

Namaste
